LUYANDO: EPISODE 17
BOOK 3
Luyando and her grandmother sat outside the house the following day with no words whatsoever. Everything that happened the previous day was like a nightmare that they wished they would snap out of. Who would have thought that her grandfather would take off that way? The man didn't even care about his dignity and pride. They had been played. Luyando's grandmother could not believe what had just happened and she wanted someone to tell her how foolish she had been but Luyando couldn't say it. She felt foolish too.
Like any other day, Luyando’s grandmother watched her granddaughter leave for work while she called her husband to come in and have breakfast. The two had a beautiful breakfast. Luyando’s grandmother always knew how naughty her husband was and he didn't hide it. 'That dress looks sexy on you', he complimented her while holding her waist. She was shy and got off from his grip. 'What are you scared of? Luyando is at work. She won’t be home till later', he bit his lower lip. Luyando’s grandmother couldn't resist the urge to be in his arms and feel those huge arms around her. She cleared the dining table and went to the kitchen where she started doing the dishes. She could not help it but think about that grip in her waist. She was lost in thoughts when she felt his body pressed against her back. He kissed her neck and she let him. He turned her around and looked her in the eyes and said, 'You are the most beautiful woman I have ever met Tisa'. She wanted to say something but he stopped her and kissed her. It had been years since she felt someone’s lips pressed against hers, grandmother was in cloud nine. The man carried her to the bedroom and everything was perfect.
Paradise was short lived when she came home after leaving him to go and tell her friend what had just happened. She was very happy and wanted to share with someone. She got home and found some things missing. At first she thought they had been robbed and went to check on him in the bedroom but she couldn't find him. She checked the back of the house but he wasn't around. She then thought he had gone to buy something at the nearby shops but he never returned. It took six hours to dawn on her that she had been played. Her friend found her crying on the veranda. Some other two women thought there was a funeral and came to check but it was a robbery, said Grandmothers friend when Luyando found her outside talking.
'What are we going to tell Josi ai', Luyando broke the silence. Her grandmother could not say anything. 'This is embarrassing mweh', she frowned. It was around 4am when the two had woken up and went outside hoping they would find him outside. They knew their hopes were useless because he ran away and stole things from them. Luyando left her grandmother sited and prepared for work. Even though it hurt thinking about what her grandfather did, she tried not to dwell too much on that. 'Iam disappointed in the both of you, I thought you had brains but I guess I was wrong', Luyando remembered Josi's word.
Luyando wanted to call Josi and tell him about what had transpired but she felt ashamed. She knew she would be faced with the 'I told you so' statement. She thought of postponing on telling him. She knew her grandmother would never tell him. The thought of Josi coming back and finding grandfather ran away was now scarier than ever. For the first time, Luyando didn't look forward to Josi's visit to the city.
A week later, Luyando had been busy with work and they were forgetting about what happened. Tyson never gave up on pursuing her and she was finally giving in. She was very attracted to him compared to Nyambe. 'I just love the way he carries himself you know', she told Priscila. Priscila had also been busy with her life. Her boyfriend was serious and he really loved her. Luyando was happy that her friend had finally found someone. Priscila told Luyando that Joseph had started bothering her some days ago but her boyfriend dealt with him. 'So it is Tyson, right?', Priscila asked. 'Yes, it has to be him but I have told him that he has to sort out his issues before we can be together', she smiled. 'What are you going to do with Nyambe?', Priscila probed. Luyando hadn't thought about what she was going to tell Nyambe but she was excited to think about that.
Knocking off from work one day, she found Tyson waiting for her outside. 'Don't you have things to do Ty?', she asked him. 'I would put everything on hold for my favorite person', he said. 'I told you that we cannot be seeing each other until the courts clear you’, she told him. Tyson didn't mind what Luyando told him because he knew she was slowly sliding back to him. 'Do you mind if I carry your handbag?' he looked at her. Before she could answer he took it from her and walked at a faster pace. Luyando knew Tyson was stubborn like her brother. She then thought of Josi and remembered he was coming in a few days’ time.
Luyando and Tyson had been talking on the phone for days and it felt like old times. Luyando was happy regardless of what happened a few days ago. Every moment she spent talking to him, she knew he was the one. 'Let’s make it official Luyando', Tyson said on the other end of the line. She wanted to tell him yes but she was sticking to her word. Luyando smiled hanging up the phone. Luyando knew that Tyson would do anything for her especially in protecting her. She was safe with him.
Josi came and like they expected he was furious at them. He called them all sorts of names and scolded them. He began like he was joking but the more he talked, the harsher and meaner he sounded. 'We have heard Josi, we made a mistake', Luyando said irritated. 'Don't even tell me that, you people were played for fools. You made me look like a hard hearted man and for what', he looked at his grandmother who was sobbing. 'This must be a lesson to the both of you, Iam the only man in your lives that will always be there for you'. Luyando couldn't take what Josi was saying, she felt hurt and wanted some air. She left the house and went for a walk.

It was around 8 in the evening. She didn't want to talk to anyone. She only wanted to be left alone. She knew they were wrong but the emphasis that Josi put on it was too much to bear. She had gotten the much needed air she needed and was heading back to the house when a black harrier pulled over. A huge figure emerged from the car and came towards Luyando. Luyando was scared as the street had no one but her, the car and the man coming towards her. The man got closer but she had not seen the man before. He reached where she stood and offered his hand to greet her. 'Hi Luyando, Iam Big Joe, you can call me BJ'.
