LUYANDO: EPISODE 13 BOOK 3
By Brian Ngoma
Josi was hurt seeing his grandmother hurting when his grandfather left her. Even though he was young at the time, it really made him hurt his grandfather so much that he wished he was dead wherever he was. Luyando was a young girl when it happened and Josi had to watch all the suffering her grandmother went through. It was at this point in life when Josi got closer to his grandmother. 'I will never let anyone hurt you, grandmother', young Josi said. His grandmother smiled at him and thanked God for the grandson she had. Despite being young, Josi played a big role in ensuring that his grandmother forgot about his grandfather. After their parents died in a car accident, Josi made it his goal that Luyando and his grandmother never lacked anything. So far, he had done everything possible to fulfil that goal.
'Josi my son, what are you doing here?' scared grandmother asked. 'What do you mean what am I doing here Tisa? isn't this my house too?', he smiled while sitting down. Tyson got into the house too and greeted Luyando's grandmother. She didn't respond because she was shocked to see Tyson in her house together with her grandson whom he had beaten. Luyando and her grandmother were in shock seeing Tyson and Josi sited, talking to each other casually. 'Why are you both standing there like you have seen ghosts, give us something to drink. Luyando get me a cup of water Iam thirsty. Tyson, what do you need? asked Josi. Luyando looked at Tyson and Josi back and forth as they were talking. 'Iam fine for now thanks', Tyson answered. Luyando went to the kitchen and got a glass of water for Josi. Josi and Tyson had settled and they knew that they had to tell Luyando and her grandmother why they were together.
'Tisa, Tisa, Tisa, where have you put my medicine? Luyando's grandfather emerged from the corridor. Josi choked himself with the water he was drinking when he heard the voice. He saw the man he least expected to see in his entire life. Josi and his grandfather met eyes. Luyando looked at the two and sensed that something was about to happen. She stood up and looked at Josi. 'Josi we can explain. Before you say anything please hear us out', Luyando begged. Josi stood up at the same time his grandmother stood. Tyson kept looking at the expressions on everyone’s faces and boy, things were not alright.
Josi put the glass of water on the table. 'Luyando, what is this? What is this man doing in my house? asked Josi angrily. They could not answer him. Luyando's grandmother shielded her husband. The man was too weak to talk and he had seen that Josi was not happy to see him. 'I need an explanation now! Josi shouted. Tyson didn't want to interfere because he had discerned that it was a family issue. 'Josi, he’s staying with us, grandfather is sick', Luyando cried. 'Luyando your grandfather died a long time ago. This man you are seeing here is not your grandfather', Josi stepping forward. Luyando stood between Josi and her grandparents. Their grandmother was not saying anything for she had known how Josi felt betrayed because of her deed. 'I want him gone now! Josi shouted. 'Grandson, it’s me your grandfather', said Josi's grandfather. Josi pushed Luyando out of his way and she fell on Tyson's laps and he was now facing his grandparents head to head. Luyando quickly got off Tyson's laps awkwardly and stood behind Josi holding him. His grandmother started crying. 'Iam sorry I never told you sooner', she cried. 'But why grandmother? Honestly, this man of all people. He left you for another woman don't you remember?', He asked her. She was quiet and his grandfather knew that every time he talked, Josi would get angry and decided not to utter anything.
Josi was never happy seeing his grandmother cry. He stepped back and grabbed his bag and told Tyson that they should go. Tyson also stood up, got his bag as well and left the house. 'I don't know what lie this man has told you but Iam not buying it', said Josi as he left the house. Luyando could not believe that her brother was leaving the house because of their grandfather. She ran to him and begged him to stay. 'Iam disappointed in the both of you, I thought you had brains but I guess I was wrong', Josi told Luyando. Hearing Josi say those words teared Luyando apart. She started crying for her brother who didn't seem to care. Josi and Tyson left the compound leaving Luyando crying. Luyando went back inside and found her grandparents sited while comforting each other. 'He will come back don't worry', Luyando's grandmother told her. 'I told you this was a bad idea', she ran to her bedroom.
Luyando couldn't sleep because she kept thinking about her brother. Not only was he a breadwinner but he was the only man in their lives that never disappointed them. It hurt her thinking about how much he was hurt. Josi had always made sure they had anything but they repaid him with deceit. She hoped that he would calm down the following day so that they would talk as a family and patch things up.
Josi and Tyson spent the night at Derricks. Derrick was also shocked seeing Tyson and Josi together. The three men bought some beer at a nearest bottle store. Josi told Tyson the reason he was upset with his grandfather. 'You should talk to him tomorrow man', Tyson told Josi. 'I hate that man. He made me watch my grandmother suffer for years while he was busy enjoying his life', Josi sipped on the beer. Tyson knew that Josi was upset and needed not to talk about family issues. He smartly changed the topic and the three men talked about other things until they all fell asleep.
Luyando wondered where her brother was as she entered the organisation's premises. From what she saw, Tyson and Josi were buddies and knowing Tyson, she knew he was safe. 'There is something between the two of them. The way he told him that they should go and how Tyson stood up like they are long time friends', Luyando wondered. As she was about to enter her office, she bumped into Angela. 'Morning Angela, how are you? I see you are a regular now', Luyando smiled. 'Iam fine Luyando, good to see you back at work. If you would excuse me, Joseph is waiting for me, we are going in the field. Some of us take work seriously unlike others'. Angela excused herself. Luyando was about to call Angela when her boss called her. 'Luyando, come to my office, there is something we need to discuss'.
