Running Away From Romeo Chapter 10
I became a laughing stock in my community. Even though Emmanuel dumped me, he still found time to come see our son. A year later I was still hoping that Emmanuel would change his mind and divorce his wife but he didn’t. One day when he came to see his son I said “you’ve been gone for over a year now. I still love you and seeing you with another woman hurts. I still have feelings for you.” I became emotional and started crying. Emmanuel tried to comfort me and we ended up having sex without protection. When we were done, Emmanuel left without saying a word.
Two weeks later, I was attending a workshop and suddenly I felt sick and collapsed. I was rushed to the hospital by my colleagues and the doctor said “we’ve done several tests, you are fine. The only thing we discovered is you are pregnant. Congratulations madam.” I was officially a total disgrace, how could I get pregnant for the second time for a man who could never be mine. I left the doctor’s office and went straight to Emmanuel’s work place but his secretary told me he was in an important meeting. I waited for an hour but the secretary kept on telling me that he was in a meeting. I was tired of waiting so I just forced myself into his office and I found him having sex with a lady younger than me. I was disappointed in him, I told him I was pregnant and left his office.
That night Emmanuel didn’t go home and his wife assumed that he was with me so she called me and said “can’t you find your own man Chipo? How can I beg you to please leave my husband alone? You have done enough harm. You are a woman like me, put yourself in my shoes.” I told her Emmanuel wasn’t with me but she didn’t believe me. I called Emmanuel and asked him why he didn’t spend a night at his house and he said “I was busy at the office, I had so many files to work on that’s why I didn’t go home.” I laughed and said “you think you are talking to a 5 yr old who you can lie to. I know you spent a night with that young lady I found you with. Anyway it’s none of my business. Feel free to do whatever you want.” Emmanuel asked for forgiveness and promised to leave his wife for good since he only had a kid with her but he was about to have two kids with me. I thought Mundia and Emmanuel divorced for good not knowing that he was still seeing her.
It’s like the devil tempted me again because I continued dating and sleeping with Emmanuel. One evening, his wife sent me text saying “YOU GUYS PUSHED ME SO FAR. AND NOW YOU HAVE DESTROYED MY LIFE AND HOPEFULLY YOURS. YOU WILL SOON FIND OUT WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT.” I didn’t understand her text so I showed it to Emmanuel who told me to delete it.
I went for my routine antenatal checkup when I was 6 months pregnant and my doctor said I had to do some blood test. When the results came out my doctor said “madam do you know your HIV status? Well all your blood results are normal but you are HIV positive. We will counsel you and you will have to start your ARV treatment as soon as possible.” I couldn’t believe it. I was in extreme shock. I drove to Emmanuel’s house only to find him relaxing with Mundia so I started crying and said “so you lied to me about divorcing her, not only have you impregnated me but you infected me with HIV. How could you be this careless Emmanuel, I’ve just found out today and I don’t know if our daughter will be HIV negative.”
