Running Away From Romeo Chapter 3
That very day I met Richard and said “I’m almost done with school, are we going to break up so that I date someone in my age range?” Richard smiled and said “off course you will date someone else. When you are done with school, you are free to do whatever you want with your life. Besides our arrangement was just me sponsoring you that’s all” I was happy because I was finally going to leave him for good.
I went to Charity’s place to share the good news with her but I found her moody, I asked her what the problem was and she said “my boyfriend’s wife called me today. She warned me to stay away from her husband or I’ll feel her wrath. I’m really scared my guy and you know I can’t leave her husband because he is the one sponsoring me. I’m scared and confused.” Then I said “that’s what you get for dating a married man. I’m lucky because Richard’s wife and kids don’t stay in Zambia. Anyway keep it low low with your buyer, at least let his wife think you two broke up.”
When I reached my place, my sister called me and said “ba Chipo you are too quiet. Anyway how’s your sugar daddy or should I say your blesser? I met Richard in town with his wife. Hmmm his wife looks notorious and like a bully so please keep a low profile with Richard otherwise you’ll be in problems.” My sister liked joking a lot so I didn’t believe her, I ended up calling Richard and his wife answered the phone. I cut the line but she kept on calling me. She continued calling me then I decided to put my phone on silent. After she stopped calling, she sent me a text saying “WHO ARE YOU AND WHY ARE YOU TEXTING MY HUSBAND AT 21HRS? IVE BEEN TRYING TO CALL YOU BACK BUT YOU ARE NOT PICKING UP MY CALLS.” I just read the text and didn’t reply. In the morning, I received a call from Richard, I thought his wife was calling me again so ignored his calls. 2 hrs later, Richard showed up at my place looking upset, he looked at me and said “I’ve been calling you and you are just ignoring my calls. Why are you ignoring me?” he was serious but I just laughed. He asked me what was funny and I said “it’s not like I’m ignoring your calls, your wife was calling me last night using your phone so I ignored her calls. And this morning I thought she was the one calling me. Why didn’t you tell me that your wife is back? Mutinta is the one who told me that she saw you with your wife but you know Mutinta plays too much that’s why I had to confirm with you.” Richard calmed down and said “I’m sorry I didn’t inform you but I was too busy so I forgot to tell you that my wife was around. We have to be careful with how we do things now because my wife is a jealous woman and she is too nosy. So from now on don’t call me, I will be the one to call you.”
Things were moving fine for Richard and I, little did I know that his wife saved my number on her phone so one day she called me and said “hello, is this Chipo N’gandu? I have a package for you from Mr Richard Mwale. Where can I meet you?”I was too foolish to trust her so I told her we could meet by Debonairs at levy junction. When I got there, a group of women followed me and started beating me while others were shouting “hule… hule… hule… find your own man.” The women tore my clothes and I was so embarrassed. Richard’s wife who was part of the crowd said “so you are the little minion dating my husband? What’s so special about you? What do you have that I don’t have? This beating is a warning to you and all those silly girls dating our husbands. Azimai continue beating this girl.” People were just watching and others were taking videos lucky enough I had a fringe weave so I wasn’t worried about being posted on social media. A man who was watching from a distance came to my rescue. He pleaded with the women to let me go. I was half naked so the guy gave me his jacket to cover up and he took me to his car.
